Dr. Janis Shandro
Dr. Janis Shandro is a community health and safety practitioner and a trusted advisor and consultant to various international finance institutions and organizations, governments, private sector companies and Indigenous communities. For almost 20 years, she has had direct project experience in over 30 countries with a focus on identifying and managing social, health and safety risks associated with large-scale development projects, incidents and emergency scenarios. She has dedicated the last decade of her career to supporting a variety of health-related projects in the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Shandro holds a co-disciplinary PhD in Mining Engineering and Population Health from the University of British Columbia, Canada.
Dr. Genandrialine L. Peralta
Gene has been active in environmental engineering, environmental health and climate change issues for more than four decades. She is one of the pioneers in the development and promotion of health impact assessment guidelines, policies and practice globally. She has worked in various sectors (energy, water, health, and education) in more than 30 countries in government, academe, NGO, international agencies and multilateral development banks in the areas of environmental safeguards, environmental/health impact assessments of development projects, climate change vulnerability assessment, adaptation and resilience as well as management of chemicals, waste, drinking water and air quality. She finished a BSc in Chemical Engineering from St Louis University (Baguio City, Philippines), a MSc in Environmental Engineering from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, a Masters of Applied Science and a PhD Environmental Engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Helen Brown
Dr Helen Brown is an independent Health and Environment consultant with expertise in the discipline areas of public, environmental and occupational health. As an academic with over 20 years’ experience, Helen is an accomplished researcher and teacher, specializing in Health Impact Assessment, systems thinking and interactions between climate and health. Recent highlights include the harmonization of curricula for HIA in universities across the upper Mekong Region, development of climate and health training programmes in Lao PDR, vulnerability and adaptation assessments in Malaysia and supporting the implementation of HIA legislation in the Philippines through Training of Trainers. Helen was the Director of World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health Impact Assessment at Curtin University from 2014 to 2021 and is the lead author of the Australian national HIA guidelines. Her passion now lies in creating partnerships in the Asia Pacific Region to nurture opportunities that promote healthy, sustainable and climate resilient
development.
Dr Lynn Crisanta R. Panganiban, MD, FPSCOT, DPAFP
Dr. Lynn Crisanta R. Panganiban is a medical doctor specializing in family medicine, pharmacology, and clinical toxicology. She is a retired Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of the Philippines-College of Medicine and a retired clinical toxicology consultant at the National Poison Management and Control Center of the Philippine General Hospital. She was the president of the Philippine Society of Clinical & Occupational Toxicology from 2016 to 2019.
Lynn finished her Doctor of Medicine degree and residency at the University of the Philippines with additional training in clinical toxicology, health care evaluation and management skills (University of Toronto), occupational health and safety (University of Minnesota School of Public Health). She has published in peer-reviewed journals and wrote and co-authored 21 textbooks and manuals, notably the “black book” in toxicology entitled Algorithms of Common Poisonings. Since 1991, she has delivered numerous lectures locally and internationally on pharmacology, toxicology, medication safety, risk assessment, and poisoning prevention and management.
She continues to serve as technical consultant to government agencies, international agencies (World Health Organization) and nongovernment organizations (Pure Earth and Ecowaste Coalition) in pharmacology and toxicology. She is an attending clinical toxicologist at two hospitals: The Medical City-Ortigas and Adventist Medical Center Manila.
